Profile / Biography
Abraham Harold Maslow was born April 1, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York. He studied psychology and earned his Bachelor, his Master, and his Doctorate by the age of 26 years old at the University of Wisconsin. In 1935, Maslow worked at the University of Columbia, and researched human sexuality.
Maslow was on the faculty of Brooklyn College in 1937 and stayed there for fourteen years
Maslow could see human beings' desires prearranged akin to a stepladder. At the base was everything necessary to survive. Next came a protection need -security, stability. Then the emotional or societal requirement – to be loved, to belong to someone, to be accepted. At the peak, was the need to accomplish oneself, to become that entire one is competent of becoming.
Best experiences are deep love moments, considerate, pleasure, or joy, when one is more complete, lively, self-contained and nevertheless a component of the humanity, more conscious of reality, righteousness, harmony, kindness. The enlightened person has many such top occurrences.
Maslow's thoughts were amazingly inventive - the majority of psychology ahead of him had been apprehensive with the abnormal and the ailing. He seemed to recognize what made constructive mental well being.
Maslow taught at Brandeis University in 1951 until 1969, and then went to the Laughlin Institute in California. He died in 1970 of a heart failure.
