Bob Dylan
A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.
Profile / Biography
Robert Allen Zimmerman was born on the 24th of May, 1941 in Minnesota and burst into the music scene embodying the changing face of the 60s. He was a rebel in an era of rebellion. From legendary anthems in the 60s to a chart-topper in 2006, Bob Dylan has come along way and his music is as contemporary today as it was then.
Why Dylan? Because of Dylan Thomas, the poet. Bob Dylan was a poet par excellence, reflecting the turbulence of the times and maybe triggering change in many ways. Yet this was the man who said, "I don't call myself a poet because I don't like the word." Was he a prophet? He never thought so…but his millions of fans did. That’s probably why he wrote over 500 songs, 40 albums, and over 57 million copies have been sold. From hits like ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’ and ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’ to ‘Mr Tambourine Man’,’ Like A Rolling Stone’ and ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’.
It’s been a long journey musically for Bob Dylan. From folk to R&B to rock ’n roll to gospel. The lyrics are cryptic and oh, so reflective of the day. Through most of them runs a strange strain of humor which is what, perhaps, elevates and sets him apart from most of the other musicians. The voice of the people peppered with a twist of wryness that’s unmistakably Dylan.
