Profile / Biography
There are few things that Donald Trump hasn’t tried. From real estate to beauty contests, and from bottled water to on-line business courses, the Trump brand has become synonymous with success.
Born in New York City on June 14, 1946, Trump attended the New York Military Academy and Fordham University before matriculating at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a degree in finance.
Following graduation, Trump went to work for his father at the Trump Organization, focusing primarily on middle class rental housing. After turning a $6 million profit on his first revitalization project, Trump turned his attention to the more lucrative luxury market completing landmark projects such as New York’s Grand Hyatt and Trump Tower. Fueled by the success of these projects, Trump ventured into the airline and Atlantic City casino industries.
Unfortunately, this expansion came at a price. With mounting debt, Trump faced business and personal bankruptcy during the early 1990’s. Through an intricate combination of debt restructuring and divestiture of enterprises such as the Trump Shuttle, he was eventually able to overcome this obstacle. Along the way, he had two failed marriages and fathered four children.
Recently, Trump’s popularity has once again soared thanks to the enormously popular television reality show, The Apprentice. He is again developing luxury properties and has ventured once more into new territory - golf resorts. In addition, he married his third wife, Melania Knauss in 2005 and became a father for the 5th time in early 2006.
