Profile / Biography
Eileen Caddy is the founder of the Findhorn Foundation. Caddy is a Scottish writer who is one of the leading voices in the New Age movement that advocates meditation and self-love, from which she teaches everything is possible.
Caddy first meditated in 1952, and heard God speak to her in a still, small voice within, telling her to “be still and know that I am God”, which was the same statement heard millennia before by Moses. After a suicide attempt and several other struggles, Caddy co-funded the Findhorn Foundation, which promotes world peace through meditation and the healing aspects of self-love, and that sections of the world can be healed through meditating on the transforming powers of love.
Caddy is the author of several books, including The Spirit of Findhorn, Flight Into Freedom and Beyond, Footprints on the Path, and God Spoke to Me. The Findhorn Foundation has developed several meditation spiritual retreats, and is known as a spiritual community, education center, and eco-village.
The Foundation was created in 1962 while all three original adult members were on unemployment benefits (the Caddies had turned a clunker hotel in Cluny Hill into a four-star complex but lost their jobs there). They supplemented these benefits by growing vegetables. The soil was difficult to turn into food until another founding member, Dorothy Maclean, discovered her ability to communicate with devas, or the overlighting spirits of plants.
