Profile / Biography
J.M. Barrie has lately achieved a lot of recognition thanks to his portrayal by Johnny Deep in the movie Finding Neverland, which is about the development of Barrie’s most famous character and story, Peter Pan.
Barrie was born on May 9, 1860 in Scotland. He was both a novelist and a playwright, and his earliest works were written in Scots and published them under as “Thrums”. The series includes Auld Licht Idyls, A Window in Thrums, and The Little Minister. Subsequent works included the “Tommy” novels. In 1902, Barrie published The Little White Bird, which included the first appearance of Peter Pan.
The idea for Peter Pan and his Lost Boys was based on the five boys of the Llewelyn-Davies family, and over the years there has been many dark speculations over the relationship, although all of the boys denied anything inappropriate.
The play Peter Pan first debuted in 1904, on Dec. 27.
When the Lord Chamberlain began to make efforts to censor the plays of London, Barrie was part of a large group of playwrights who organized to oppose the measures both in 1909 and 1911.
Barrie was made a baronet in 1912, and died in June of 1937.
