Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia
On February 25, 1948, Martin Luther King Jr. was ordained as a Baptist ministry. He wedded Coretta Scott when he was in Boston for his residency. They had 4 children together.
Martin Luther King Jr. was always advocating for the civil rights for people of his ethnic background. In 1955, he received his doctorate degree. After Rosa parks was arrested, Martin Luther King Jr. joins the boycott on December 1, 1955 and was elected president of the Montgomery Improvement Association, making him the official spokesman for the boycott.
On December 21, 1956, everyone could ride the bus as equal. Martin Luther King Jr. became known as an important black leader.
Martin Luther King Jr. wrote many books as well as several articles. In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous address “I Have a Dream” in Washington, D.C. in front of a quarter million of people. Martin Luther King Jr. was at least arrested twenty times, assaulted multiple times and his home bombed.
On July 2, 1964, Martin Luther King Jr. was present at the signing ceremony of the Civil Rights Act at the White House. On December 10, 1964, Martin Luther King Jr. received the Noble Peace Prize.
Martin Luther King Jr. announced in 1968 that the Poor People’s Campaign would conclude in a March on Washington that demanded a $12 billion Economic Bill of Rights guaranteeing employment, income, and to end the housing discrimination.
On March 28, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. lead a march that turned violent and was shot on April 4, 1968 when he was standing on the terrace of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. On April 9, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr.’s funeral was an international event.
On November 2, 1986, a national holiday was proclaimed in Martin Luther King Jr.’s honor.
