On 15 August, 1769, Napoleon Bonaparte was born into a noble, wealthy family in Ajaccio, Corsica and had seven siblings. In 1779, Napoleon went and studied at a prestigious military academy, in France. At fifteen year old, he was accepted by "l'Ecole Militaire" in Paris. He completed a three year program in one year and graduated in 1785 with the rank of second lieutenant of artillery. He was stationed at Valence until 1790. Napoleon spent the following two years back home. He then was send to Italy where he received his first military command and defeated the city of Toulon in 3 days by bringing the city to its knees. He was promoted to brigadier-general.
In 1795 he was sent back to Paris to protect the "Tuileries". Napoleon ordered to fire the cannons onto the marching crowd. The nobility saw him as a savior. He fell in love with Josephine de Beauharnais and married her on March 1796. Within two days of his marriage, he was promoted to the rank of commander of the Army of Italy. Napoleon had many military victories over many countries. When he returned to France he was seen as a hero and was acclaimed by everyone. Napoleon decided then to rule and conquer every country on his path. On November 10, 1799 Napoleon accomplished "un coup d’état" and overthrew the government. In May 1804, he became The "Emperor of the French” Napoleon continued his European conquest and became king of Italy in 1805. He defeated many countries and placed his family on the throne of Holland, and Spain The Russians forced Napoleon to retreat to France in December, 1810. The rest of Europe allied himself against Napoleon and attacked France on all fronts. He was forced to resign on April, 1814 and was sent to Elba. He tried to regain his title a year later and was forced again to resign after he lost the battle of Waterloo. Napoleon was sent to St. Helena and died there on May 5, 1821.
